Open source custom cabinetry database. Digital build system.



From today, July 1st 2023 we are committing to our journey of building and developing an open source library of fitted cabinetry components. Something that I have 'ummmed & arrred' about for a while. It is my hope & vision that these designs & files will be used to help architects, interior designers, self builders & even cabinetmakers across the globe fit out homes with functional, high quality fitted furniture without the reliance on locally available traditionally skilled labour or refer to off the shelf, low quality flat pack furniture.


First on the agenda is to create an open source catalogue of wardrobes and this will be delivered & downloadable from August 31st 2023. We plan to include:


🚀 15 interior configurations ranging from 300mm to 1200mm in width.

🚀 All configurations will have doors on & doors off options ( Flat faced doors for now )

🚀 Assembly drawings

🚀Fixed google sketchup models of all configurations - drag and drop functionality into room models.

🚀 Pre-nested AutoCAD DXF files for CNC output

🚀 And the holy grail... parametric functionality in fusion 360 downloads.



Initial thoughts on the digital build models & data.

🪛 Our digital build system will be manufactured from standard 8ft x 4ft sheets and will be nested to assume for grain direction.

🪛 Using pre-drilled lamello clamex connectors for a tight, no nonsense connection.

🪛 Additional screw location cabinet connections version.

🪛 Where possible we will hide the fixings!

Good on you Toby and the whole PreFabLab team for trying to help the industry in this way. Hopefully others follow suit. Precision manufactured joinery is the future
